Brooke's Family Memorial September 2, 2023 at 1:00 pm

On September 2, 2023 at 1:00 pm my family will be spreading my aunt's ashes down by the water.  Thank you for being respectful of our gathering of family and friends.  This was my aunt's happy place.  Her greatest joy was being in the sun, crabbing and getting oysters off the beach. She made the best oyster stew. My aunt was a realtor for many years on the North Shore and ended up finding my parents our land and cabin.  She blessed all of us with her cooking, love of the water and usually a dog by her side.  Thanks Auntie for the memories and your "far out" lifestyle.

Upcoming Work Party September 9, 2023 - Projects

Our next community work party is scheduled for September 9, 2023.  We have several projects planned that will need to have plenty of people available to help complete the projects.  Please mark your calendar now for September 9th - 9:00 am - 1:30 pm and let us know what project you would like to help with.
  • Water Shed - Working with others, under Dana and/or Pete's guidance, finishing building a ramp from the stairs continuing to the door of the pump house.  Basic carpentry skills a plus.
  • Steps - We are planning to add a section of steps on the slanted grade from the road down to the beach house.  Bob Falk will be providing leadership and guidance.   Ability to lift small landscaping blocks and put into place will be helpful on this project.
  • Meter Reading - We will be checking the meter readings at each residence.    Requires working in teams of 2, bending, lifting metal covering over meter and recording numbers.
  • Staining - We will be refreshing the stain on the pier.   Although the pier will still be in use during the work party we will begin staining any areas such as rails, etc that can be stained while still in use.   We will complete project at the end of the season.
  • Vegetation - We will be weeding and cutting back vegetation at the beach and on each of the community roads.
  • Entryway - On each side of the community entry there are landscaping blocks that need to be reset.
  • Community Signs - Shorehill signs at entryway need maintenance and/or repair.  May also require painting.
  • Mailbox Structure - Assess posts for any maintenance and/or repair needs.  Clean boxes.
  • Chains - Replace deteriorating covering on chains at roundabout/boat launch.  Check locks for any needed preventive maintenance.
  • Signs - Replace Alta Vista Road sign and check others for any needed maintenance.  Check NO DIVING/NO PARKING signs and secure as needed.
Please let us know of any other projects you have noticed that need attention.
Remember, you receive $50.00 credit on your next community dues bill for participating.
Great time to interact with neighbors and the community meeting follows the work party.

We look forward to seeing you and appreciate you all being part of helping to keep this a great community!

BE AWARE - BEAR SIGNS WITHIN SHOREHILL ESTATES

Sightings of bear scat within Shorehill Estates have been reported.  Be cautious.

Bear poop, or scat, is tubular like human feces but largerIt is often found along trails or at the base of trees or plants. The color and material of bear scat vary depending on what the bear is eatingBears are mostly vegetarian and eat grass, roots, wood debris, ants, or pine conesIn late summer, they eat large amounts of berries, which make their scat runny and blackish-red with visible seeds.

Community Condolences to the Falk Family

Sincere condolences to the Falk family who recently lost their son Richard, age 36, in a tragic car accident.  Richard (Rick) was a part of our community and worked with us during the past work party.  His gentle quietness and presence will be missed.

Rick's memorial will be on July 14, 2023 at 3:00 pm at the Sand Hill County Parks Ball Fields where he worked.  The family plans to keep it simple with a memorial tree planting and invites anyone who wants to come to attend.  They suggest you bring your folding chairs as there will not be seating at the ball field.  There will be opportunity for those who want to talk about Rick to do so.  The family plans to share some pupus and refreshments.

Along with the flowers sent to the family on behalf of the community, we will continue to be here as a community extending our friendship, support and a listening ear in the days ahead to Bob, Marilyn and family.
